One of the Society's
main functions is to undertake research into card issues, and many
Reference Books have already been published detailing issues on
a commodity and/or a regional basis.
The Research team includes a number of specialists, who each concentrate
on a specific area of card collecting, such as Chinese issues, South
African issues, and Inserts.
Since the research is being conducted on a continuous basis, anyone having any information which is thought to be previously unrecorded is invited to submit this, preferably accompanied by photocopies, to the Chairman of the Research Committee, Martin Murrray, at 51, Watford Way, London NW4 3JH.
The Edward Wharton-Tigar Cigarette and Tobacco card collection, situated at The British Museum, is also available to members for private research. Contact the Society's general secretary or the magazine editor for full information as to inspection times.
Vernon Young has now completed his fully revised Trade Index and Handbook covering issues up to 1970. Therefore the old version in four volumes should only be used for issues after 1970. The new work is in two volumes, each approaching 550 pages, supplemented by updates from time to time as previously unrecorded and amended information becomes available. The two volumes compliment each other, as one comprises the Index, or record of all the issues known, and the other comprises listings of the issues which are unnumbered, etc, with comprehensive references between the two.
