Use of the Society's library

General Guidelines

The library is for use by fully paid-up members of the Society; up to two books at a time may be borrowed.

Requests for information and loans may be made to the librarian. See contact page for further details.

Books are normally loaned for one month, unless a longer period has been agreed with the Librarian. Any extension may depend on whether a book has been requested by another member.

When a book is despatched a Society loan form will be enclosed, together with a return address label. Please return the form with the book.

When returning books, recorded delivery postage is to be used.

Members are expected to pay postage both ways. Please check the postage on the package when received, including the recorded delivery charge, and send this amount (cheque made out to CSGB or equivalent in postage stamps), when returning.

Please note that if any book / item is lost, destroyed or damaged whilst in your possession, you are liable to pay the Society an amount which will be decided by the Council.

The Librarian is prepared to search for information in response to specific requests by members. It may, therefore, be possible to avoid books being despatched and thus the cost of postage, which can be considerable. However, please bear in mind that any request to conduct research takes time to execute.

Given mutual agreement, the librarian is happy for books to be looked at ‘on site'.
